Store Manager

cumberlandfarmsinc·Rochester, NY

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this job. It's not a Store Manager role you're walking into on day one; it's a Manager in Training position designed to get you there. You'll be learning the ropes at a Kwik Shop in Rochester, NY with the goal of running your own store.

What you'll be doing

The training is structured. You'll spend official training weeks shadowing a Training Manager, learning how everything works from the ground up. Between those weeks, you're on the floor during supervisory weeks, working various shifts and putting that leadership training into practice with the team.

Once training is complete, you become part of our bench leadership team. That means you'll help cover stores when managers are out until you're assigned your own location to run.

  • Greet every guest. A warm welcome and a smile matters here.
  • You'll assist the Store Manager with building the team. That involves training people, making schedules, and coaching.
  • Set clear goals for yourself and others. Communication is constant, and everyone holds each other accountable.
  • Keep the sales floor stocked. Rotate product and make sure we're never out of what guests need.
  • For stores with hot food programs, you'll help oversee quality control, food safety, and merchandising.
  • The store's cleanliness is a team effort. You'll delegate tasks and pitch in to keep everything spotless; coffee stations, food areas, bathrooms, inside and out.
  • Running the cash register efficiently is part of the job.
  • Our stores are open every day, including weekends and holidays. You'll work a mix of shifts as needed to support that operation.

The schedule & physical side

This is a full time position. Expect about 40 regular hours per week with 5 hours of required overtime. Shifts vary; days and nights; as many locations are open 24 hours. Working weekends and holidays is required.

A bit of travel comes with it; about 5%. In some cases, you'd need your own vehicle to make bank deposits.

The work is active. You need to be on your feet most of the day and handle lifting: regularly moving up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 40 pounds.

What we're looking for

  • A high school diploma or GED is the minimum education required.
  • At least one year of experience in retail or food service.
  • A year in a leadership role within retail, guest service, or restaurants is preferred but not mandatory on day one.
  • A ServSafe or Food Safety certification is a nice bonus if you have it; it isn't required upfront though.

The person who fits here

You've got energy that lasts through a shift. Talking with guests and your team comes naturally to you. You can switch tasks quickly without getting flustered. And honestly? Being team oriented matters more than almost anything else here; going the extra mile for someone else is just what we do. Basic computer skills are helpful too. If you love delivering great service but haven't managed every piece of a store before? Don't sweat it. We can teach you our systems. Your unique background could bring something really valuable to our team. That's something we celebrate here at Kwik Shop under Cumberland Farms.
