About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. It's for a Patient Care Technician in the Emergency Services department at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY. You'd be right in the thick of it, working alongside nurses and the care team to help patients when they need it most.
The Work
This is a hands on role. You're providing direct care based on the plans set by the licensed nurses. A lot of your day is about making sure patients are comfortable, safe, and their basic needs are met. You've got to be flexible because what the unit or a patient needs can change in a heartbeat.
- You'll help patients with bathing, grooming, and changing their linens.
- Taking vital signs is a core part of the job: temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, and checking their pain level.
- Assisting patients with moving around; sitting up, standing, walking, or transferring from bed to chair; is regular work.
- You'll also help with feeding and lifting patients when necessary.
- The role includes helping when patients are admitted, discharged, or moved to another unit.
- Sometimes there are clerical tasks like updating patient charts.
- For this specific Emergency Department role, you might handle stocking rooms and managing items like medications, sharps, and syringes on the OR field.
The Person We Need
You have to be at least 18 years old. That's the only hard requirement. But honestly? To do well here and hit the ground running, some background is pretty important.
- It's preferred if you've completed Nursing Fundamentals coursework.
- A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification would be great.
- So would experience as a medical assistant or technician in any kind of healthcare facility.
- If you've gone through a dedicated Patient Care Technician training program, that counts too.
- An associate's degree is also listed as a preferred qualification.
The physical side is no joke. This is classified as Medium work. You should be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 to 25 pounds frequently. You'll be walking, standing, and squatting often during your shift. We'll consider accommodations based on individual needs reported by you or your doctor.
The Schedule & Pay
This is a full time position at 36 hours per week. The schedule rotates between day shifts (7 AM to 7 PM) and night shifts (7 PM to 7 AM). You need to be available for both.
The base pay range is $18.10 to $19.75 per hour. That starting range is our best estimate for a successful applicant. What you actually earn within it can depend on your experience, specific qualifications, internal equity, and other factors. This range might change later and could include other pay components.
