What You'll Actually Do
You'll provide medical management for workers compensation injured employees. This isn't a desk only role ; you'll be out in the field in the Roanoke, VA area, sometimes driving up to two hours for appointments.
- Coordinate medical evaluations and treatment plans
- Meet with physicians and injured workers to talk through treatment goals and return to work plans
- Keep employers and referral sources updated on medical treatment and work status
- Arrange ancillary services like home health, durable medical equipment, and physical therapy
- Talk with employers to understand job requirements and explore modified or alternative work options
- Use Evidence Based Guidelines to evaluate treatment results with physicians and injured workers
- Document your observations, assessments, and plans for each case
- Generate reports and correspondence for referral sources, employers, medical providers, and injured workers
- Attend telephonic case conferences as needed
- Maintain a caseload of at least 35 files with a minimum of 150 monthly billable hours
- Keep a 95% or better quality compliance rate
What You Need To Bring
Here's what's required to get started:
- A nursing or medical degree from an accredited institution
- An active Registered Nursing license or medical license in the state where you'll practice
- 2 4 years of work experience
- Willingness to complete required training to maintain your license and stay current
- Ability to travel up to about a two hour radius from Roanoke, VA
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook

- Workers compensation experience
- A certification in a related field
- 1 3 years of clinical experience
- Solid knowledge of managed care, especially how to use criteria, guidelines, and national standards
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Organizational and leadership skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your own case files
- Good time management
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary for this position ranges from the low end to the high end of what we expect to pay. What you'll actually get depends on a bunch of factors ; your experience, education, where you're located, the complexity of the role, your skillset, the line of business, supply and demand, and your scheduled hours.
