About This Role
The role
This is a PRN (as needed) Registered Nurse position in the Neuro Care Unit at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA. You'll have real influence here. Your input on patient care matters, whether you're talking openly with your direct manager or participating in hospital councils and national nursing initiatives. The decisions you help shape don't just affect patient outcomes ; they affect the future of nursing itself.
What you'll do day to day
- Assess each patient's condition when they're admitted and at the start of every scheduled shift. If something changes, you spot it and report it fast.
- Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions exactly as ordered by the medical provider. You'll document everything thoroughly and on time in the patient's medical record.
- Administer prescribed medications and watch for therapeutic response. If there's an unintended reaction, you take action immediately.
- Respond to patient requests quickly. Anticipate what they need before they have to ask. Resolve whatever comes up.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers about the medical condition, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow up steps. You'll translate complex medical terms so everyone truly understands.
- Collaborate with medical providers and the whole care team. You'll follow established nursing models like "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage" to deliver personalized, comprehensive care.
- Advocate for patients, families, and caregivers. Everything you do reflects the organization's vision, mission, and values.
What you'll need to bring
- A diploma from an accredited School of Nursing. A BSN is preferred.
- A current Registered Nurse license in Virginia, or a compact license that covers Virginia.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, obtained within 30 days of your start date.
