About This Role
What you’ll do in this role
You’ll be the person operating the ultrasound equipment that helps doctors see what’s going on inside a patient’s body. That means doing echocardiograms, vascular scans, and general ultrasound exams using two dimensional imaging, spectral Doppler, and color flow Doppler. You’ll also handle preliminary reports of what you find, and if something is urgent (STAT), you’ll communicate it right away according to our protocols.
A lot of this job is about working directly with people. You’ll explain each procedure to patients, listen to their concerns, and get their consent for whatever we need to do. Then you make sure those documents get put into their medical records. Sometimes you’ll assist a physician during an ultrasound guided biopsy or other invasive procedure.
On any given day you might also:
- Select the right transducer for the exam and adjust equipment settings based on what part of the body we need to look at
- Key in test data and patient information into the computer so we have a solid record of results
- Help transport patients to and from their rooms
- Administer contrast material safely when needed
- Keep equipment maintained according to manufacturer specs and industry standards ; that happens at least once a month
- Monitor and log usage in our computerized documentation systems
- Influence and help write standard operating procedures for best practices in ultrasound
- Travel to different office locations as needed
- Use personal protective equipment and follow standard precautions every time
- Take on other duties your manager assigns from time to time
