About This Role
What you'll actually do
This isn't a sit back and file returns kind of gig. At a nationally ranked CPA and advisory firm in Raleigh, NC, you'll be hands on with complex returns and strategic work from day one. You'll prep business and individual tax returns, but also dig into the planning side ; provisions, research memos, depreciation schedules, trial balances. You're not just cranking out forms; you're solving problems.
- Plan and perform tax compliance engagements for C corps, S corps, partnerships, individuals, and state/local entities
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual income tax provisions; spot and document uncertain tax positions
- Conduct technical research and write clear memoranda summarizing your findings
- Build client depreciation schedules from scratch using source data
- Create trial balances from client info; provide adjusting journal entries as needed
- Take on project management responsibilities when necessary ; no two days look the same
- Keep accurate records of your scheduled work and communicate status clearly to the team
- Mentor newer staff, participate in recruiting and training efforts, and help shape team culture
The nuts and bolts they're looking for
- A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field ; that's non negotiable
- Public accounting experience is required; 3+ years is what they prefer to see
- A CPA license or eligibility to get one is highly desired (and honestly, opens doors here)
- You can work independently without someone hovering over your shoulder all day
- Talking to clients at every level doesn't rattle you ; partners, controllers, whoever walks in the door
- S troubles come at you fast; you need real problem solving skills to untangle them
- Decision making that's grounded and confident ; not impulsive or passive
- You know Microsoft Word, Excel (including data manipulation), and Outlook like the back of your hand
How they take care of you
The salary lands between $85k and $120k depending on what you bring. Benefits are solid: health insurance (medical/dental/vision) plus a 401k match. They actually believe in work/life balance here ; it's not just a slogan. You get an excellent PTO plan with flexibility built in. And there's a clear path to leadership if that's where you want to go.
