Bus Driver

The Gig

Wake County Public School System needs bus drivers. Full time and substitute. If you're reliable and safety minded, and you can get your NC Commercial Drivers License with the P&S Endorsement (that's Passengers and School Bus), you should throw your name in.

One thing to know: your route could be anywhere in the WCPSS system. They try to give preference to your home address, but it's not a guarantee.

What You'll Actually Do

You'll drive a school bus. That's the core of it. You'll pick up kids, drop them off, and make sure everyone gets where they're going safely. Expect a schedule that works for you ; they offer options there. And there's a daily guarantee on your pay, so you're not left wondering what you'll earn.

What You Need to Bring

• You're at least 18 years old.
• You have a valid NC driver's license.
• You've held that valid license for at least two years.
• Within the past 12 months: no conviction or pending charge of any moving violation. Also, no more than one charge of any moving violation, regardless of how it turned out.
• Within the past 60 months: no more than three charges of moving violations total. No conviction of a moving violation paired with any other moving violation charge. No DWI or DUI charges. No reckless driving charges. No charges for passing a stopped school bus.
• Within the past 10 years: no suspension or revocation of your driving privilege ; except for status offenses like lapsed insurance, failure to appear in court, or failing to comply with an out of state citation. But even then, no more than one suspension or revocation for those kinds of things in the last 10 years.
• Indefinitely: no more than one DWI or DUI charge ever.

The Pay and Perks

Full time drivers (30 hours and up) get the full package: vacation time, holiday pay, health insurance, and NC Retirement. And like I said, there's a daily guarantee on your pay. There's also training provided.
