Outside Sales Representative

The Role

BlueLinx is hiring an Outside Sales Representative – National Retail in Portland, OR. This isn't a desk job. You'll manage existing relationships with national retailers, but your real focus needs to be on uncovering new revenue and growing the business. Think of it as a hunter role ; you identify opportunities, expand partnerships, and drive profitable growth. Relationship building is everything here.

What You'll Actually Do

• Find new sales opportunities with both new and current national retail customers, especially program business.
• Focus your time and effort on the largest, most profitable accounts by segmenting your list strategically.
• Improve the product mix and profitability across every account you manage.
• Research markets and customers alongside inside sales partners to qualify leads before you pitch.
• Craft competitive pricing strategies and clearly articulate value propositions that make sense for each customer.
• Present solutions to customers, then adjust as you get feedback or see market conditions shift.
• Close deals by securing purchase orders and making sure every order fulfillment step goes right.
• Support customers after the sale so they keep coming back for more.

What You Need to Bring

• A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent industry experience ; that's strongly preferred but not mandatory.
• Zero to two years of sales experience where you actually grew accounts and generated new business.
• The ability to manage an existing book of business while still finding time to chase new partnerships.

A plus if you have:

• Building materials or related industry experience under your belt.
