OR RN

Kaiser Permanente·Portland, OR

About This Role

OR RN – Portland, OR

Alright, let's talk about this OR role. It's not just about the technical skills, though you'll need those. It's about being a solid, reliable part of the team that makes surgery happen smoothly. You're the RN who keeps things moving and keeps patients safe during their procedure.

You'll be in the mix from start to finish for each case, assessing, planning, and directing nursing care throughout the inter operative phase. That means coordinating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other ASC professionals. Your day swings between circulating and scrubbing in, so you've got to be organized and efficient in both roles.

What you'll do here

  • Provide direct nursing care for patients in surgery; you're evaluating outcomes and documenting everything as you go.
  • Handle the setup for procedures based on what type of surgery it is.
  • Organize your nursing activities tightly; there's a rhythm to it.
  • Apply proper body mechanics when positioning and transferring patients.
  • A big part of this is supporting the broader health care team to promote continuity of care and customer satisfaction.
  • You'll participate in monthly unit quality assurance activities.
  • Keep everything safe; follow manufacturer instructions and all Kaiser policies for equipment use.
  • Stay informed. That means reading new info in communication notebooks and attending staff meetings where your input matters.

The must haves

First off, you need an Oregon Registered Nurse License and a current Basic Life Support certification. Your education should be from an accredited school of nursing.

On the experience side, we're looking for a minimum of two years of recent RN work. Specifically:

  • Two years of RN experience in an acute care or ambulatory clinic setting within the last five years.
  • Two years of experience circulating in either an inpatient or ambulatory surgery setting, also within the past five years.

What would make you stand out

If you've got more, that's great. Here’s what we'd really like to see:

  • A solid three to five years of O.R. experience where you've done both circulating and scrubbing.
  • A specialty certification like CNOR is a strong plus.
  • ACLS certification is preferred.
  • Skills for pre op area work and IV starts are always needed.
  • Crucially, having at least two years of that circulating experience within just the last three years is ideal.

The practical stuff

This is a full time position under our collective bargaining agreement with ONA. Your schedule will comply with those contractual responsibilities. We expect reliability; you'll need to comply with shift policies, manage your time accurately per Kaiser policy, and be prompt from breaks to maintain coverage.

A quick but important note on benefits:

  • The compensation details are outlined fully in our collective bargaining agreement with ONA (Oregon Nurses Association). This includes pay rates based on your verified experience level at hire.

*This position requires compliance with all applicable Kaiser Permanente policies as well as state & federal regulations (like HIPAA). A background check will be part of the hiring process.*

How to apply

If this sounds like your kind of role; where professional skill meets teamwork; we should talk.
