Manufacturing Engineer at Orchid Orthopedic Solutions
Orchid Orthopedic Solutions in Portland, OR needs a Senior Manufacturing Engineer. Our Oregon City facility has been around since 1973, and it's about 80,000 square feet with roughly 300 people on staff. We specialize in hip and knee joint implants that help people stay active longer. It's a full service plant, meaning we manufacture medical implants completely in house from start to finish.
This role is all about driving engineering activities to develop and optimize manufacturing processes, define quality controls, and implement process variation reduction strategies. You will work alongside cross functional teams to support product development, ensure manufacturability, and keep improving operations.
What you'll be doing
- Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews to make designs more production friendly
- Review technical drawings, 3D models, and specifications to support manufacturability
- Create and update engineering documentation like routings, BOMs, and customer requirements
- Design fixtures or manage their fabrication/procurement; then ensure they work on the floor
- Lead or support problem solving using Lean Manufacturing tools
- Work with Operations to set up and monitor consistent data reporting systems
- Train people, draft work instructions, and make sure new processes actually get implemented
- Tackle complex engineering problems and lead cross functional solutions
- Serve as the technical liaison during new product launches with customers
- Perform process validations and develop the related protocols
The experience we need from you
- A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's is preferred but not necessary
- At least 5 years of engineering experience required; 7+ years preferred
- A minimum of 2 years working in a manufacturing environment preferredr/>
