Alright, let's talk about this driver job in Portland, OR. It's a lead driver position with Vistar, which means you're driving routes but also helping guide a small team of drivers at a shuttle yard. You're the go to person on the ground for schedules, training, and sorting out delivery issues.

What you'll do

Your main job is to drive a tractor trailer or straight truck on local, over the road (OTR), shuttle, or overnight routes. You're delivering snacks, candy, and beverages to customers all over. But there's more to it than just driving.

• You'll oversee the assigned driver teams at your location. That involves managing work schedules, helping with new hire onboarding, and stepping in to solve customer delivery problems.
• Safety checks are non negotiable. You perform pre trip and post trip inspections on your truck and trailer to DOT standards and our own company rules. If something's wrong, you report it immediately.
• Before you roll out, you check the trailer to make sure the freight is loaded right and secure. You'll count items against the invoice.
• Then you drive your route and deliver orders. Unloading product into the customer's storage area is part of the deal.
• You verify deliveries with customers, get signatures, and handle cash or check payments when needed.
• Damaged goods or customer returns come back with you. You unload them at check in and complete the paperwork.
• At the end of your shift, you secure all equipment. Your daily log of hours has to be accurate and entered according to federal DOT rules.
• A bit of housekeeping too; keeping your tractor and trailer clean is part of keeping things professional.

The basics we need from you

This isn't an entry level gig. We need someone who knows their way around a commercial vehicle and can handle a bit of leadership.

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• You need at least two years of commercial driving experience. Experience in foodservice distribution or something similar is a big plus.
• A valid Class A CDL is mandatory. You have to be at least 21 years old.
• A clean Motor Vehicle Report for the last three years is essential.
• You must meet all state licensing requirements where applicable.
• A valid DOT Health Card; or being able to get one; is required.
