About This Role

What you'll do as an Assistant Store Manager

You supervise and coach employees to deliver efficient, friendly service at the registers and throughout the store. That means addressing personnel and performance issues directly ; coaching, verbal warnings, written warnings ; and consulting with the Store Manager and HR when progressive discipline or termination is needed. You ensure compliance with all personnel policies and procedures.

You'll dig into the mechanics of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and understand how daily operations translate into the monthly P&L. You assist in the AOP budgeting process. Hitting budgeted sales and profit targets is on you, with a heavy emphasis on front end process to manage shrinkage. You participate in the annual inventory process, including preparation and execution of inventory guidelines.

Training front end and other employees on required programs falls to you. You help the Store Manager make sure all staff follow company policies, procedures, and store SOPs ; and that the facility stays well maintained and safe for everyone. You interview, hire, orient, and train your assigned employee group. You give floor employees day to day direction: schedules, store goals, sales and shrinkage targets, and follow up on results. You perform Manager on duty functions.

You plan in store demonstrations, from preparing the demo cart to distributing samples based on the merchandising program, using strong suggestive selling techniques. You help oversee product receiving, returns of damaged or expired product, and proper, timely restocking. You maintain merchandising programs like promotional ends, signage, and other company or market specific programs. You communicate with store employees about all merchandising and marketing programs and oversee execution and follow up reporting.

General operating procedures include analyzing monthly store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall store performance. You address any variance to company standards with an action plan, partnering with the Store Manager as needed. You ensure proper scheduling to meet business objectives. You make sure employees understand and can execute emergency operating procedures. You accept special assignments from the Store Manager. You adhere to, communicate, and fully support and enforce all company policies, processes, and procedures. Other duties come up as assigned.

Internally, you interact with employees at every level of the company. Externally, you interact with all customers and service providers.

Where you'll work

This is a retail store setting, open to the public. You'll be exposed to outside weather, including inclement weather. Noise level is usually moderate. You work mostly on level surfaces, but you may need to use a ladder or work on an elevated surface. Store temperatures range from -10 to 85 degrees. You physically interact with customers.

What you need to bring

You need a minimum of four years experience in a retail work environment. You need at least two years of management or supervisory experience. You must be able to work a flexible hourly schedule, including holidays and weekends. You need competency with computers: spreadsheet creation and usage, word processing, email, and internet software. You must have cash handling experience.

Strong planning and organizational skills are important. You should have the desire and ability to deliver superior customer service and build professional relationships with clients, maintaining a consistent customer focus. You need to think quickly and critically, make good business decisions, use common sense, and think logically. Excellent leadership skills matter ; you should be highly motivated and self driven, with solid communication, conversational, and negotiation skills. You need adaptability and willingness to do what's needed every day to offer customers fast, easy, efficient, professional service. Strong business awareness is key.

Pay

Starting at $24.622 per hour.
