Cook

Summit·Pittsburgh, PA

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this cook supervisor role in Pittsburgh, PA. It's with Summit, and they run the food service inside correctional facilities. This isn't about fancy plating for a restaurant critic; it's about running a tight, efficient kitchen that delivers consistent, quality meals on a strict schedule. You'd be supervising the team that makes that happen.

What you'd do

You're in charge of the kitchen shift. That means training and instructing employees on food prep and, just as importantly, on sanitation and safety standards. Your main goal is making sure meal service starts exactly when it's supposed to. You'll check that every item going out looks right, is the correct portion, and is at the proper temperature. Quality control is your daily routine.

What you need to bring

You've got to have real kitchen experience. We're talking at least one year in a high volume place that does scratch cooking, not just reheating frozen stuff. You need a solid grasp of culinary methods and standards.

  • A year of high volume, from scratch culinary work is the baseline.
  • You know your way around a kitchen; proper techniques, how things should be done.
  • Supervising a team isn't new to you; you've done it before.
  • You can keep an eye on a dozen things at once without letting details slide.
  • You know food products inside and out.
  • The service part matters too; being able to interact appropriately is part of the job.

A Food Handler certification would be a plus, but it's not a deal breaker starting out.

The schedule & pay

This is a full time position where you're on site at the facility. The pay starts at $18.00 per hour.

Benefits

  • Medical insurance (for full time employees)
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Optional UNUM plans for accident, critical illness, or hospital indemnity
  • A discount program
  • Commuter benefits for parking or transit
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • 401k plan
  • Sick time
  • Holiday pay for 9 recognized holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement (for full time employees)
  • Paid Time Off
