The Job

This is a Technologist role at Sonora Quest Laboratories in Phoenix, AZ. You'll be working in the Anatomic Pathology section of a reference lab that processes biological specimens. It's hands on work that directly supports patient diagnosis and treatment.

The shift is varied, so you won't have a set schedule every week. You'll need to be flexible with your hours.

What You'll Actually Do

You're the person who receives biological specimens into the department and preps them for analytical testing. You'll also perform waived testing yourself. Beyond that, this role has some real responsibility attached to it.

  • Prepares samples for testing and performs waived and moderately complex tests per CLIA '88 guidelines ; accurately and on time
  • May perform highly complex testing under general supervision
  • Works as a grossing processor under direction from a Certified Pathologist Assistant
  • Receives, examines, and processes Pathology specimens
  • Assists the coordinator and supervisor in keeping the histology section running ; this includes prioritizing daily workflow, training new employees, maintaining QC/QA systems and procedure manuals, solving technical problems, and supporting research and development activities
  • Takes over oversight of the Anatomic Pathology section when the supervisor or coordinator isn't there
  • Performs all functions of an AP Laboratory Technician
  • Trains employees on basic entry level tasks when needed
  • Serves as a resource for others in the department
  • Keeps your station clean, stocked, and disinfected at the end of each shift

What You Need to Bring

There are two ways to meet the minimum qualifications here. Either way, you need to show competency across all areas of Anatomic Pathology.

  • A Bachelor's degree with Anatomic Pathology departmental specific certification documentation completed within 6 months of hire date ; OR ; an Associate's degree with eligibility for ASCP HT registry (or already holding ASCP HT registry)
  • A willingness to cross train in all areas of the Anatomic Pathology section; you won't just stay in one lane here
  • The ability to give guidance on pre analytical, waived, and moderately complex testing issues when your supervisor isn't around
