Surgical Technologist

Mayo Clinic·Phoenix, AZ

About This Role

I've been placing surgical techs for over a decade, and I can tell you this isn't your average gig. This is Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. The bar is high, the work is serious, and the support they give you to meet that standard is real. If you're looking for a place where your skills are respected and you can build a career, not just hold a job, read on.

The Work

You're the one who makes sure everything is ready and right. You'll scrub in, working directly with surgeons and RNs to provide safe, efficient care. Your day is about preparing and maintaining all the instrumentation and equipment. It's knowing sterile technique inside and out, understanding anatomy and procedures, and thinking on your feet because no two cases are ever exactly alike.

What You Need to Bring

  • A diploma from an accredited; or military; surgical technology program.
  • Your current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification needs to be active when you start.
  • You have to get certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within your first year here, and keep it current.

A quick note on that NBSTSA cert: if you were hired at Mayo Clinic in Arizona before November 20th, 2024, this rule doesn't apply to you.

Now, if you've got about two years of OR experience under your belt or you've finished a periop 101 program? That's a big plus. We'd love to see that.

The Schedule & Pay

This is a full time position working 80 hours every two weeks. Your shift will be days, from 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM. That's four ten hour shifts each week.

Weekends are scheduled based on what the department needs. And there's a call requirement for holidays; when you're on call, you need to be able to get here within 30 minutes. They have sleep rooms available through security if you need them.

The pay range for this role is $30.54 to $45.87 per hour.

How They Take Care of You

  • Medical: There are several different plans you can choose from.
  • Dental: You can go with Delta Dental or use a reimbursement account for more flexible coverage.
  • Vision: An affordable plan with a national network of providers.
  • Saving Money: Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are available for eligible expenses, using pre tax dollars.
  • The Future: A solid retirement package is part of the deal to help secure things down the road.
