About This Role

What You'll Be Doing

This role is about managing the billing for all external client accounts, including our Long Term Care Facilities. You'll direct assigned departments to improve service levels through continuing education and by implementing innovative technology and processes for billing and collections. Everything is done according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, plus applicable professional standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, conduct performance evaluations, enforce quality performance, and supervise the workflow for designated staff. Provide leadership, coaching, recognition, staff development and corrective actions when necessary. Establish priorities, workloads, controls and work procedures, and determine resources needed.
  • Oversee the department to ensure all billing submissions and denials are addressed in a timely and professional manner, following departmental policies, procedures, quality performance standards, compliance, and all applicable laws and regulations related to billing and collection of a claim.
  • Monitor client accounts including Long Term Care Facilities to ensure bills are sent on time and census compliance is followed. Review and analyze account aging, credit balances, client adjustment rates and collections, making sure everything is handled professionally and maintained per departmental policies, procedures and quality performance standards. Manage all requests for missing information from clients, ensuring data is entered accurately and kept secure.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with staff on updated collection techniques, bill code changes, Medicare rules and regulations, client and facility issues, compliance updates, and payor changes. Annually review and update standard operating procedures and training manuals, and develop and drive billing best practices.
  • Oversee communication, tracking, monitoring, reporting and addressing errors in the front end data entry process and client initiation process. This includes communication to other internal departments about errors in the client account set up process. Perform daily audits on production standards and service quality, providing management with trend reports weekly. Schedule and manage labor and resources within budgetary guidelines. Use Six Sigma concepts and drive tools and methodology usage in the department.
  • Ensure internal audits and quality controls are in place per departmental policies, procedures, generally accepted accounting principles, and all applicable laws and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

You will direct, train and motivate 4 to 6 exempt professionals and 13 to 16 entry level staff. That's a pretty big team, and you're the one running it.

What You Need to Bring

  • A bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration or a related field (or equivalent knowledge gained through experience).
  • Two years of collection experience.
  • Two years of previous supervisory experience.
  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent employee relations skills and behaviors that match the values of LSA/SQL.

What Would Help You Stand Out

  • Prior laboratory billing or healthcare billing experience.
  • Medical claims collection experience or knowledge of commonly used medical billing terminology.
  • A certification in procedural and diagnostic coding.
