About This Role

Here's the gig

Sonora Quest Laboratories in Phoenix, AZ is looking for a Lab Specialist to serve as the technical backbone of our Anatomic Pathology operations. You'll cover Cytology, Histology, Transcription, and Flow Cytometry. This isn't a bench only job; it's about driving LIS optimization, making sure we're regulatory tight, helping staff level up their skills, and pushing continuous quality improvement forward. You'll work closely with leadership to roll out new processes, tackle complex esoteric testing, and keep high stakes technical performance steady. If you're a certified technologist with deep specialty experience and you sweat the details, this role gives you real influence in one of Arizona's leading lab systems.

What you'll actually do

  • Provide technical expertise and direct support to the Administrative Director for Anatomic Pathology across several areas: Laboratory Information System (LIS), esoteric testing and departmental billing, continuous quality improvement, technical education for staff, and regulatory compliance.
  • Give supervisors, managers, and the Administrative Director solid input on how testing personnel are performing technically.
  • Help management at different sites implement new policies and procedures.
  • Perform bench work to stay sharp in your own technical specialty.
  • Stay current on all safety regulations; make sure new procedures meet those requirements.
  • Collect technical data for litigation or special projects when needed.

The gear you'll use

You'll be working with LIS and HIS systems. Also specific departmental analytical instrumentation, basic support equipment like personal computers, telephones, fax machines, and copiers.

What you need to bring

  • A certification as a technologist within your specialty. No exceptions there.
  • You must qualify as a General Supervisor under CLIA '88 rules.
  • At least four years of hands on experience in your technical specialty.
  • A rock solid understanding of regulatory and accreditation requirements ; not just familiarity but working knowledge.
  • A high degree of technical skill plus real decision making chops.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the values Laboratory Sciences of Arizona stands by.

Stuff that will set you apart

  • Extensive LIS experience ; not just dabbling but deep know how.
  • Extensive billing experience ; if you've worked on departmental billing in a lab setting before that's a big plus.
  • Leadership experience ; any time you've guided or supervised people counts here.
