Float Pool RN

Mayo Clinic·Phoenix, AZ

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Float Pool RN position at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. This isn't your standard unit based job. You're the utility player, the one who steps in where you're needed most across different units. It's a role for someone who thrives on variety and can handle the unexpected.

What You'll Be Doing

You're coordinating nursing care from start to finish. That means hands on patient care, educating patients and their families, and managing transitions when they move between levels of care. You'll work within Mayo's professional practice model, which holds you accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating every phase of care for your patients.

  • You provide leadership by acting as a preceptor, taking on informal or formal leadership roles, and contributing to quality improvement projects.
  • A big part of the job is delegating patient care tasks appropriately; you have to consider skill levels, experience, patient needs, and available resources.
  • Mentoring and teaching are key skills here.
  • There might be committee or project work involved.
  • Just a heads up: some folks in these roles need to drive their personal vehicle as part of their job duties.

The Schedule & Pay

This is a supplemental position. The schedule is three 12 hour shifts (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM) over a six week period. Ideally, that works out to about one shift per pay period. There's no regular weekend requirement.

The pay structure at Mayo is interesting; it’s a nursing compensation model that rewards you directly for your experience, your education level, and your tenure with the organization. They combine that with a strong tuition reimbursement program. The idea is to give you clear paths to grow professionally and increase what you earn along the way.

What You Need To Bring

  • A BSN degree from an ACEN-, CCNE-, or NLN CNEA accredited program is required. If your nursing program wasn't accredited by one of those bodies, you'll need at least one year of RN experience in an applicable setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic itself.
  • A couple of important notes on the degree: if your RN start date was April 1st 2020 or later with an associate degree, you must complete your BSN within five years from your start month. If you started before that date, the specific degree requirement program from your time of hire applies.
  • You need PCU and ICU experience. That's required.
  • A current RN license for the applicable state is mandatory.
  • Certifications are non negotiable and must be valid for 90 days or more from your start date: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross are required upon hire. For Arizona specifically: You must maintain BLS competency. Some off campus positions might not require current BLS; that’s determined by the specific work area.
  • The role calls for flexibility; hours can include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and being on call. Adapting to unpredictable situations is just part of the day.
