The Gig
Sturgeon Electric Company needs a Sr. Estimator in Phoenix, AZ. This isn't a desk jockey role where you just plug numbers into a spreadsheet. You're a core part of how we win electrical construction jobs and actually build them profitably. You'll prepare full cost estimates for commercial and industrial electrical projects, handle RFP responses, and also mentor the estimators and trainees on the team. What You'll Actually Do
- Build complete labor and material cost estimates from scratch.
- Write and assemble responses to RFPs and RFQs.
- Follow company Standard Operating Procedures for estimating (yes, we have them, and they work).
- Develop win strategies for getting projects awarded.
- Maintain and grow the estimating database with real, usable data.
- Cultivate relationships with clients ; internal and external.
- Help other estimators with their cost estimates and bid packages.
- Review and evaluate estimating staff performance.
- Act as the first point of contact when the estimating team has questions or problems.
- Coordinate closely with Project Management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain the bid log and report up to corporate.
- Prepare bills of material and other info for Purchasing.
- Determine constructability by doing field walk downs with customers, subcontractors, and construction crews.
- Compare project documents for accuracy and consistency; handle data entry.
- Perform field take offs and evaluations for estimate prep.
- Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist construction personnel in tracking and understanding cost estimates after the project starts.
- Prepare and submit change orders.
- Follow up at project closeout ; invoicing, cost tracking, closing loops.
- Manage the Estimating and BIM departments if needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
You'll work out of a Company designated office or field location in Phoenix, AZ. Regular, predictable attendance is part of the deal.
What You Need to Bring
- At least 5 years of electrical construction estimating experience. No shortcuts here.
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field ; but we'll consider a combo of relevant education and experience in place of the degree.
- It's a plus if you've done estimating on industrial, high tech manufacturing, hospital, data center, or wastewater and water treatment plant projects.
- A working knowledge of local electrical codes.
- The ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, and mechanical plans, specs, blueprints, proposals, and other documents.
- A working knowledge of electrical materials and installation methods.
- General knowledge of engineered material costs.
- You're proficient with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Accubid or similar estimating software.
- Solid analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
- You work well on a team but can also stay on task for extended periods working independently.
Compensation
Salary ranges from $125,000 to $145,000 per year, paid weekly. The exact number depends on your experience. These ranges are made in good faith, and MYR Group reserves the right to adjust based on the selected candidate's qualifications.

You become eligible for benefits on the first day of the benefit month that corresponds with the eligibility month in which you first accumulate at least 125 credited hours.
