The Gist
AIMS Companies is hiring a Heavy Duty Mechanic for Phoenix, AZ and the surrounding areas. You'd handle all maintenance and repairs for our trucks and equipment. This is about keeping the fleet ready and operable. Pay starts at $25+/hour, based on experience.
What You'll Actually Do
- Keep your eligibility for AIMS Company driving privileges (check the Employee Handbook).
- Show up on time and stay productive until the job's done.
- Work with the team and follow the Lead Mechanic's instructions.
- Anticipate what needs fixing next and prioritize those repairs.
- Clean the shop and your tools at the end of your shift.
- Wear all the right PPE and keep safety front and center.
- Write down every repair and part used on completed tasks.
- Deal with customers, their folks, and all AIMS employees with honesty, fairness, and integrity.
- Keep performance high on Preventive Maintenance for all trucks and equipment.
- Efficiently knock out the work schedule your Supervisor hands you.
- Fill out detailed records of maintenance and repairs on Company trucks and equipment, and other paperwork, on time.
- Practice "repair before failure" ; catch problems early.
- Talk with your Supervisor about parts you need for immediate repairs and parts to restock AIMS inventory.
- Help the team track inventory and shop tools, equipment, and truck tools according to the Company's Tool Assignment Agreement.
- Coach Crew Leaders and Operators on equipment operating practices that could wreck the gear.
- Report equipment or truck problems to the Supervisor.
- Coordinate repairs with the Supervisor.
- Be dependable when it comes to back and forth communication with the Service Coordinator.
- Help keep the shop and yard clean and orderly.
- Build and maintain good relationships with Company parts and service vendors.
- Help with Annual Inspections on all AIMS CMV's.
- Help place annual County tag stickers on every AIMS vehicle.
- This list isn't everything ; you might get other tasks as needed.
What You Need to Bring
- General repair knowledge on trucks.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Work well under time constraints to hit critical deadlines.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Willing to work in nasty weather ; heat, rain, snow, you name it.
- Willing to work in confined spaces regularly.
- Dependable transportation and willingness to travel occasionally (less than 20% per year).
- Willing to work non traditional hours and occasional weekends.
- Ability to demonstrate equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Work on your own and solve problems as they come up.
- Review and red line plans, technical specs, and project documentation.
- Communicate in English, both spoken and written.
- Pass a pre employment drug screen and background check.
- Be authorized to work in the United States.
What's Nice But Not Required
- A Commercial Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- 3+ years of mechanical experience on vacuum trucks, combo trucks, or hydrovacs.
- Above average customer service and communication skills.
- Strong problem solving and decision making ability.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Working Conditions
You might be out in all kinds of weather. You need to stand for long stretches, bend and twist at the waist, climb stairs, and walk without help.

There are 7 paid holidays. You get 40 hours of vacation pay after 1 year, and 80 hours after 2 years. Sick pay follows state laws.
