The Director of Operations Role

Saiia Construction is growing in the Western United States. We need someone to lead field operations across our heavy civil construction division. This person will focus on large scale earthmoving and coal combustion residuals (CCR) projects. You'll drive safe, efficient, and profitable project execution while keeping us compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.

This role works closely with project management, estimating, equipment, safety, environmental, and executive teams. The goal is to align operational performance with company strategy, growth targets, and what clients expect from us.

Where You'll Be Based & How Much You'll Travel

Your location is flexible if you're near Denver, CO; Phoenix; or another Southwestern US location. You can expect up to 30% travel to regional office locations. This position comes with a vehicle allowance and eligibility for an annual incentive plan.

What You Actually Do Day to Day

• Lead multiple large scale earthmoving and CCR projects at once ; both strategic oversight and hands on direction.
• Set standardized operating procedures, best practices, and performance metrics across every project you touch.
• Make sure planning, staffing, sequencing, and execution hit schedule deadlines, budget targets, and quality standards.
• Mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, and other field leaders so the operations team performs at its best.
• Oversee project startup through closeout; keep things aligned with contract requirements and internal cost controls.
• Monitor production rates, cost performance equipment utilization labor efficiency ; the numbers that matter.
• Catch operational risks early so you can develop strategies that protect schedule budget safety.
• Support claims management change orders dispute resolution from an operations perspective.
• A strong safety culture is non negotiable; enforce compliance with OSHA MSHA (where it applies) company safety standards.
• Oversee environmental compliance for CCR handling transport placement closure remediation work.
• Work with environmental quality safety teams on permit adherence documentation audit readiness.
