Armed Security Officer
About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this role. We're looking for an Armed Security Supervisor to work with the Portland Clean & Safe program in Phoenix, AZ. It's a leadership position, and it requires someone who knows their stuff.
The Job
You'll be supervising a team. That means handling scheduling, writing performance reports, managing ongoing training, and evaluating your crew. You'll also be out there with them.
- You're uniformed and on the radio, connected directly to the District communications center for contact with Portland Police Bureau officers.
- A vehicle is provided so you can respond quickly to calls for service.
- Your main job is providing armed visual security to ensure a safe environment.
- You're expected to attempt to stop criminal conduct and street disorder when you see it.
- A big part of the role is working closely with the Portland Police Bureau. You'll report criminal activity, but you understand that you don't participate in arrests or investigations unless it's an emergency or a police officer specifically asks for your help.
- Problem solving at the request of police and supporting community policing strategies is key.
- You keep a daily log and file incident reports.
- That radio is your lifeline for talking to Shift Supervisors, police, and other public agencies.
The Schedule & Pay
The schedule rotates. You work Wednesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (swing shift), then Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. (graveyard). It's a full 40 hour week. The pay is $34.50 per hour.
What You Need To Have
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- You have to pass an extensive screening process.
- Your background needs to be solid: extensive experience in either the Military or Law Enforcement, OR a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, or Security Administration.
- A current Armed Security License from Oregon DPSST is mandatory.
- A valid state driver's license and a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
- You must be at least 21 years old.
The Commitment
You agree to follow Oregon State law and all Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) certification standards. And you're committing to further training beyond the basic DPSST requirements if asked. That includes de escalation techniques, mental health crisis response, trauma informed care interventions, and knowing how to make social service safety net referrals.
The Perks
- DailyPay: This is a voluntary benefit that lets you access your earnings on day one of work. You can get your money as you earn it, automatically save part of each check, and get balance alerts to help budget.
- Health insurance for full time employees; this includes medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- A 401k plan is available.
- Sick leave accrues based on hours worked according to state law (Oregon Sick Time).
