About This Role

Alright, let's get into it. This is for a Medical Assistant role at ChenMed in Philadelphia, PA. You'd be supporting two of their offices there. They call the position a "Care Promoter 1, Early Embrace," which is their way of saying you're the foundation of the clinical team, handling both admin and patient care to help everything run smoothly.

What you'll do

The work splits between clinical tasks and keeping things moving behind the scenes. You're always working under direct physician supervision.

  • You’ll see patients first: taking vitals, recording their medical history, and getting them ready for exams.
  • Prepping exam rooms, assisting the doctor during visits, and explaining next steps or instructions to patients is a core part of the day.
  • There's basic clinical work like collecting blood and other lab specimens, doing simple waived lab tests, and changing dressings or removing sutures.
  • You'll prepare and administer medications under supervision. CPR skills are needed for emergencies.
  • A big part of the job is observation and communication. You’re the eyes and ears, reporting any changes in a patient's condition back to the physician or clinician.
  • Processing phone messages, calling patients back, and calling in prescriptions to the pharmacy (with physician approval) are all in your wheelhouse.
  • You’ll also provide health coaching to a specific group of patients, following up with them weekly by phone to support healthy habits.
  • On the operational side, you’ll manage supplies, sterilize instruments, handle accurate documentation, and follow OSHA safety standards.

What you need to bring

The must haves are pretty specific. Here they are:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • You need to have graduated from an accredited program as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, EMT, or Paramedic.
  • At least one year of hands on work experience in one of those roles is required.
  • A current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers is required.
  • The role needs someone who’s proficient with basic computer operations and Microsoft Office stuff like Word and Outlook. Previous experience with an EMR system would be a real plus.
  • You have to be fluent in English. If you're bilingual in Spanish or Creole? That's a big advantage but not mandatory.

The kind of person who does well here

It's not just about checking boxes on a form. This place moves quickly and serves an older patient population; they need someone who can keep up without losing their cool or their compassion.

You've got to be organized enough to manage patient flow so nobody's waiting forever. Detail oriented is key because mistakes in data or reports aren't an option. Problems will pop up; they need someone whose first instinct is to solve them for the patient and help the team win.

The job can get busy or stressful sometimes. The ability to stay calm in those moments matters.

A collaborative mindset is non negotiable; you're partnering directly with doctors, nurses, case managers, and front desk staff every single day.

A final note: there’s some travel involved; about 10% of the time locally, nationally. You should be flexible for occasional weekend work too.

The details

The pay range posted for this position is $17.00 - $24.26 per hour.

The final offer depends on several factors like your experience level.
