About This Role

ICU Travel Nurse in Philadelphia, PA

Fusion Medical Staffing has a 13 week travel assignment for an ICU RN in Philadelphia, PA. It's a contract position where you'll be providing critical care, and we handle the details so you can focus on the work.

What You'll Do

The role is centered on managing care for critically ill patients. You're assessing them, running life support equipment, and administering advanced treatments. It's about constant vigilance and collaboration.

  • Assess and monitor patients, recognizing subtle changes in their condition.
  • Administer complex medications and treatments using approved critical care techniques.
  • Operate and manage advanced life support equipment.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort, addressing both physical and emotional needs in a high acuity setting.
  • Record conditions, reactions, and interventions; notify providers of any status changes.
  • Perform and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring like arterial lines, central venous pressure, and pulmonary artery catheters.
  • Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly.
  • Educate patients and families about the ICU environment, treatments, and what to expect during recovery.
  • Communicate closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate care.
  • Maintain your skills through ongoing education and training on procedures and technologies.
  • Follow strict infection control protocols to protect vulnerable patients.

The Essentials You Need

A few things are non negotiable for this assignment. Here they are:

  • A valid RN license that meets state regulations.
  • A full year of recent experience working as an ICU RN.
  • Current BLS certification from the AHA or ARC.
  • Current ACLS certification from the AHA or ARC.

A Few Things That Would Be Great

The unit would love it if you had one of these certifications. They aren't required to apply, but they're definitely a plus:

  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification
  • TNCC or NIHSS certification

The Day to Day Reality

A couple things about how this works. The schedule will have some irregular hours occasionally. And you need to be able to physically manage the unit; that means moving equipment weighing between 50 100 lbs., pushing, pulling, bending. You're on your feet a lot. The mental side is just as important. You've got to cope with frequent public contact while meeting deadlines under pressure. Sometimes you work under close supervision; other times you're handling things independently. It requires continuous concentration on detail. The ability to read/write in English is necessary for instructions and documentation. Good interpersonal communication skills are part of making it all run smoothly with a variety of staff.
