About This Role
The Gig
This is a part time Event EMT role with CrowdRx, part of Global Medical Response. You'll work out of Philadelphia, PA and respond to both emergent and non emergent medical calls during events. The pay is $25 an hour. Simple enough.
What You'll Actually Do
You'll handle whatever comes in, from minor scrapes to real emergencies. Here's what that looks like day to day:
- Follow the medical protocols, quality assurance procedures, and local SOPs like they're second nature.
- Drive company vehicles safely and obey all traffic laws for emergency vehicles. Keep a clean driving record.
- Get good at finding addresses fast, using maps and electronic devices when needed.
- Start each shift by checking the ambulance ; mechanical condition, fluids, equipment, supplies. If something's wrong, report it to the Supervisor immediately.
- End each shift by cleaning the ambulance inside and out, restocking, tagging items, and fueling up.
- Document everything about the patient assessment, treatment, and billing. Complete and accurate.
- Read medication labels and prescription directions quickly and accurately.
- Talk to patients, family members, bystanders, other agencies, and facility staff with empathy and compassion.
- Notice changes in a patient's skin or eye color that could mean something's wrong.
- Communicate with Dispatch and other responders over phone or radio about patient status.
What You Need
This isn't an entry level gig, but you don't need a decade of experience either.
- High school diploma or GED.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Current State EMT certification.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Some prior health care experience is preferred.
- 1+ years of experience as an EMS provider is preferred.
- 911 experience is preferred.
- A working understanding of special event operations and customer service.
- Effective oral and written communication. Strong listening and comprehension. Adaptability to quickly evolving situations. Solid decision making.
The Schedule and Conditions
Events don't run 9 to 5. You'll work days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Expect extended workdays. A lot of that time is spent inside the ambulance, but you could also be outdoors in any weather. Moderate noise levels are typical. Sometimes you'll work in poorly lit environments, sometimes in a moving vehicle.
Physical demands are real. Moderate to extended sitting, standing, and walking. Repetitive motion. You'll routinely lift more than 200 lbs. with assistance. Push, pull, reach, lift, bend, squat, kneel, twist, carry, type, and climb stairs. You need to visually identify color coded items. Clear speech and hearing are essential. And you must be able to wear a face mask or respirator with a proper fit for extended periods.
Mentally, you need critical thinking skills. The ability to use logic and reasoning to weigh alternative solutions. Fatigue happens. High pressure happens. Stressful situations happen.
