About This Role

What you'll do

As the Infection Preventionist at Carle Health in Peoria, IL, you're the certified subject matter expert who develops, implements, and oversees the organization's infection prevention program. That's a lot of responsibility, but you'll have the backing of a large, well established health system.

You'll handle infection surveillance, prevention, and control activities from start to finish. That includes analyzing surveillance data, guiding prevention and follow up efforts, and evaluating whether interventions are actually working. You'll also provide infection prevention education for personnel and step in with expert guidance during infection surge events.

  • Provide oversight and management for ongoing infection prevention and control activities
  • Monitor and assess infection prevention and control practices, policies, and procedures to ensure organizational, physician, and staff compliance
  • Conduct annual and ongoing risk assessments to identify potential for acquiring and transmitting infections based on geographical location, community and population served, care and services provided, and analysis of surveillance data
  • Monitor and assist with data submission required for reporting to agencies like NHSN, CDC, and IDPH
  • Develop and recommend an annual plan and goals on prioritized risks, reduction of unprotected exposure and transmission, and revise goals as needed
  • Evaluate and investigate infection prevention and control issues and concerns and make recommendations for corrective activities
  • Develop, initiate, and revise infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • Serve as a mentor to department staff, developing their skills in infection prevention and control practices
  • Conduct outbreak investigations and initiate control measures in collaboration with Infectious Disease, Occupational Medicine, and Public Health as needed
  • Work with laboratory services to assist with reporting communicable diseases to the state as required by law
  • Provide assistance to Public Health Officials for disease and exposure investigation and follow up
  • Facilitate Performance Improvement (PI) teams and help implement established action plans, including follow up activities to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions
  • Conduct proactive rounds throughout departments to evaluate infection control and prevention practices

What you'll need

This role requires specific credentials and education. Here's what's non negotiable.

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) within 3 years of hire

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 per hour up to $57.88 per hour. That's the good faith minimum and maximum for the role at the time of posting. Your actual offer will depend on things like your experience, education, and skills.
