About This Role
Hey there. We're looking for a Cardiac Sonographer to join our team in Peoria, IL. You'd be the one providing high quality heart and vascular images for adult patients, plus helping out with stress tests. A sign on bonus is on the table, and if you've got more than a year of experience and are moving from over 50 miles away, we can talk about relocation help too.
What You'd Be Doing
Your main focus is performing detailed ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels. It's a mix of technical skill and patient care.
- Perform two dimensional ultrasound studies, identifying EKG abnormalities or arrhythmias along the way.
- You'll use M Mode techniques to measure cardiac dimensions at precise points in the cycle.
- A big part of the job is assessing blood flow; looking for increased velocities, stenosis, regurgitations, and shunts using pulsed and continuous wave doppler.
- You'll estimate the severity of valvular insufficiencies by mapping regurgitant jets with color flow doppler.
- When standard 2D and color flow aren't giving us what we need, you'll use contrast echocardiography.
- Evaluating left and right ventricular function and documenting wall motion abnormalities is key.
- You need to recognize everything from common acquired pathologies to complex congenital heart malformations and possible surgical outcomes.
- The work follows updated protocols across four echocardiographic windows: parasternal, apical, subcostal, and suprasternal notch regions.
- Operating the ultrasound equipment means knowing all the controls that affect data quality; things like TCG, focus, and gains; to get interpretable images quickly.
- Selecting the right transducer for optimal resolution and penetration is part of every study.
The role also involves a lot of coordination with our cardiologists and handling various testing procedures.
- Obtain and document pertinent patient history and clinical data to support diagnostic results. You'll correlate clinical history with each exam and consult with cardiologists for clarification when needed.
- Prepare patients for dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiograms; you'll assist them, produce images in a timely manner, then communicate those results back to the cardiologist promptly.
- Assist cardiologists directly during transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
- You'll help perform functional, pharmacological cardiolite, and echocardiography stress testing. That includes accurately assessing a patient's physical ability to complete the test.
- A crucial responsibility is providing thorough assessments during crisis situations and notifying physicians when necessary. Proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias is required.
The job isn't just about imaging; it's about keeping everything running smoothly day to day. You’ll be part of regional mobile echo/vascular service rotations as well as an on call rotation schedule. There's also administrative upkeep involved: maintaining monthly correlation studies & statistics; monitoring charges via our computerized system; documenting procedures correctly; interpreting physician orders accurately; completing quarterly competency checks in stress lab/holter/event monitoring; troubleshooting equipment issues when they pop up. We expect you to manage your time well within your assigned shift; using overtime only when truly needed; and organizing your work despite frequent interruptions. Using slower periods productively helps keep our department efficient. And we value people who pitch in willingly when other team members need a hand while preventing waste of supplies wherever possible.
