HVAC Technician

The Job

This is a Senior Ammonia Refrigeration Manager role at BJ's Wholesale Club in Orlando, FL. You'll manage and maintain a facility and all its equipment ; HVAC and refrigeration systems included ; with safety and operational efficiency as the top priority. It's a hands on leadership position where you're accountable for the physical plant, the people running it, and the numbers that keep it all going.

What You'll Do

• Hire, onboard, and train maintenance and refrigeration team members so everyone works safely and in line with regulatory standards
• Travel to and from locations monthly to check that associates are following procedures and maintaining equipment and software properly
• Keep the Ammonia Plant refrigeration equipment, material handling equipment, and fire suppression systems running safely and efficiently
• Manage ePSM and make sure the scheduled preventive maintenance program prevents downtime and catches issues early
• Review and sign off on tasks and documentation to confirm everything is neat, thorough, accurate, and completed on time
• Coordinate shared resources with other departments and locations to support company business plans and objectives
• Encourage win/win outcomes by modeling cooperativeness, flexibility, and a willingness to adapt
• Promote exceptional customer service by building and maintaining effective communication with vendors and internal and external customers
• Manage the work order system for general repairs and maintenance on the building and grounds
• Train associates and vendors to use the company's CMMS system
• Participate in setting policies, procedures, and goals for the physical plant
• Schedule outside maintenance vendors through the RFP process for major projects and coordinate with contractors, vendors, and government agencies to keep team members safe
• Help control facility ammonia maintenance expenses and provide input on capital budget recommendations to the Director of Facilities Manager, Corporate Engineer, VP of Construction, and Plant Director
• Encourage a safe work environment where everyone feels personally responsible for themselves and others
• Monitor and manage the shop's safety and sanitation levels
• Promote GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards and keep a neat, clean work area free of hazards
• Actively investigate accidents and near misses quickly and thoroughly
• Monitor and manage departmental payroll, including checking time/attendance daily and coordinating PTO requests for staffing
• Other duties as assigned

What You Need

• High school diploma or college coursework, continuing technical education, or comparable business experience is preferred
• 10 years of experience in HVAC and ammonia refrigeration
• Experience with 3 phase electrical systems
• Experience reading and interpreting PI&D drawings, piping schematics, and single line electrical drawings
• Ability to understand and follow EPA and OSHA policies, procedures, and safety management programs
• Ability to stay calm and focused when prioritizing requests from multiple sources at once
• Ability to provide clear direction and instruction
