Concrete/Masonry Worker

Job Overview

You'll work with concrete and masonry materials on various construction sites around Orlando, FL. This job involves pouring, spreading, and finishing concrete for sidewalks, foundations, patios, walls, and other structures. You might also lay brick, block, or stone depending on the project. It's physical work; you're outside most of the day in all weather conditions. Most crews start early and wrap up by mid afternoon. You'll need to handle heavy loads and be comfortable with tools like trowels, screeds, mixers, and saws.

Duties & Responsibilities / JobXi / Orlando, FL

• Prepare work areas – Set up forms for concrete pours using wood or metal framing. Stake them securely so they hold under pressure.
• Mix and pour materials – You'll mix concrete or mortar by hand or use mechanical mixers. Pouring often happens in a continuous operation so you keep moving.
• Spread and level surfaces – Use shovels rakes and screed boards to get a flat finish before it sets too quickly.
• Finish concrete – Apply texture with brooms add control joints with edgers or create smooth finishes with steel trowels.
• Cure and protect surfaces – Cover fresh concrete with plastic sheets apply curing compounds or wet burlap to prevent cracking as it hardens.
• Demolish old structures – Break up outdated concrete slabs or masonry walls using jackhammers sledgehammers if needed before new pours begin.
