About This Role
Alright, here's the deal. We need a Systems Engineer in Oklahoma City, OK to help build and deploy software for a critical national security program. This is hands on technical leadership on a long term contract.
What you'll be doing
You'll lead an application team, making sure new software features get built and deployed smoothly. You're the technical point person, working directly with government leads and our internal engineering leadership to turn high level requirements into real, delivered solutions.
- Manage and provide technical direction for your team's development work.
- Plan, design, and oversee the implementation of software solutions.
- Handle systems engineering tasks: from requirements analysis and design to integration, testing, deployment, and documentation.
- Make sure solid engineering practices are followed across the board.
- Figure out how new work fits with existing government business processes.
- Work with other dev teams to find and build important integrations between systems.
- Own and manage your Agile team's backlog; prioritizing stories based on stakeholder feedback so the team is always on the most valuable task.
- Use GitLab for ticketing and documentation to support SAFe program planning.
- Lead or participate in all Agile ceremonies: stand ups, planning sessions, reviews, retrospectives.
- Keep tabs on sprint progress and help the team clear roadblocks.
- Regularly refine the backlog; that means breaking down features into stories, adjusting priorities, updating acceptance criteria, or removing old tickets.
- You're the gatekeeper for quality; you accept or reject completed work based on the defined criteria.
- Lead backend system design and architecture decisions.
- Drive projects focused on scalability, reliability, and performance for the whole engineering group.
The specifics we need from you
A Bachelor's in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering (or a related field) plus 12 to 15 years of relevant experience. A Master's degree with 10 to 13 years works too. We can also consider additional years of experience in place of a degree. That part is firm. The clearance is non negotiable: you must have an active Top Secret clearance with the ability to get a TS/SCI with Polygraph.
The day to day setup
The job is mostly onsite at our client location in Bethesda. But it isn't rigid; there's schedule flexibility here. Occasionally some tasks can be done remotely. You'll collaborate closely with our Lead Systems Engineer and Release Train Engineer.

- A big part of this role involves mentoring mid level and junior engineers; sharing best practices and offering guidance on their careers comes with the territory.
