About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Occupational Therapist role with SSM Health at Home in Oklahoma City, OK. It's a day shift position, 40 hours a week, and you'd be working with home health patients. The job is about helping people regain their independence after dealing with physical, emotional, cognitive, or psychosocial challenges. You're not just treating a condition; you're working with someone in their own space to figure out what they need to live safely and confidently.

What you'd do

You'll start by assessing how patients manage their daily living skills and design a plan of care from there. That means implementing treatments, documenting progress, and adjusting the plan as things change. A big part of the work is education; you'll teach patients and their families about the deficits they're facing and how to work with them.

  • Plan for discharge from therapy services when the time comes.
  • Your day involves recommending adaptive equipment and connecting people with support programs.
  • You'll also oversee care provided by other designated team members to make sure everything meets regulations and standards.
  • And yeah, there's some driving involved since you're going to patients' homes.

What you need to have

For education, you need a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy (or a related area that lets you get licensed). No prior professional experience is required for this role; they're considering new grads.

The licenses and certifications are non negotiable and depend on where you're working. For Oklahoma City, OK in Oklahoma, here’s the exact list:

  • A Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • A valid driver's license from your state of issuance.
  • A clean driving record; they'll check the Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
  • An active Occupational Therapist license from the Oklahoma Medical Board.

The physical side of the job

This isn't a desk job. You're on your feet a lot. You'll be walking, standing, reaching, and gripping throughout the day.

  • Frequent lifting and carrying of things weighing up to 25 pounds is part of it.
  • You'll also do occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting objects between 25 and 50 lbs.
  • There will be times when you need to assist or move patients.
  • Good hearing and vision are important for patient communication, monitoring equipment, and judging distances during home visits.

The schedule & benefits

This is a regular, full time employee position on the day shift. You're scheduled for 40 hours weekly in the Home Care department.

The benefits package is pretty comprehensive. SSM Health pays for most of your medical, dental, vision, life insurance premiums; prescription drug coverage is included too. They offer paid time off that covers vacation days as well as holidays. There's short term disability if you need it. Retirement planning includes both a 401(k) with matching contributions from SSM Health and a pension plan through their retirement program. They provide paid parental leave for new parents (one week pro rated based on your FTE). If you want early access to your earned pay before payday, that's an option through DailyPay (fees might apply). And for continuing education? They've got upfront tuition coverage available through FlexPath Funded for eligible team members.
