About This Role

What You’ll Be Doing

This is the kind of role where you own the finance strategy for an entire Area. You’re the trusted advisor to the Area President and the functional leaders, helping them think through long term business and financial planning. You’ll collaborate with partners across the organization to improve financial results and support strategic initiatives. You’ll assess performance, then initiate actions that actually drive results.

You’ll own P&L management. That means making strategic decisions to drive EBITDA ; managing costs, improving efficiencies, and enhancing gross profit. You’ll give the Area leadership team clear visibility and guidance so they hit their financial targets. And you’ll use analytical foresight to make decisions that help the business now and later.

Day To Day Responsibilities

  • Act as the go to finance partner for the Area; collaborate with the Controller’s Group, Managed Services, COE, and Region staff to deliver timely and accurate reporting and analysis.
  • Work with Area functional leaders, COE, and Region leadership on annual business planning and monthly forecasting.
  • Be the gatekeeper for all financial processes that affect results; highlight risks and opportunities as they come up.
  • Build credibility and trust with leaders across the Area by understanding their needs and pain points.
  • Bring an end to end value chain perspective and an independent point of view to every conversation.
  • Keep financial data ready and accessible so every discussion and decision is grounded in facts.
  • Review balance sheet health quarterly with corporate stakeholders.
  • Lead financial acumen training for Area and DC management so they understand how their work connects to financial results.
  • Identify opportunities for gross profit improvement and cost management; drive accountability for getting it done.
  • Drive profitable sales growth by reviewing and approving local customer contracts and incentive agreements.
  • Collaborate with Sales Excellence, Area Sales management (Local and National), and Revenue Management teams on customer profitability decisions.
  • Review daily and weekly results dashboards, analyze data, explain variances and trends, and coordinate action plans to meet annual plans and forecasts.
  • Lead an effective Inventory Adjustments routine with Operations, Merchandising, and Inventory Control to hit company targets for damage, spoilage, and shrink.
  • Work with AVPMM and ADR to keep inventory aligned with DIOH requirements and minimize nonproductive inventory.
  • Partner with the Credit organization to support sales growth while managing working capital and minimizing risk.
  • Increase financial acumen across all management levels, from basic to advanced training tailored to specific roles.
  • Lead by example: ask for feedback, act on it, and keep expanding your own knowledge.
  • Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis, implementing solutions, and challenging the status quo.
  • Lead the implementation of standardized work practices.
  • Take initiative to solve problems and inefficiencies, even outside your designated Area.
  • Partner with Area leadership to develop new approaches and guidance for operational cost improvements and efficiencies.
  • Own all field related SOX controls for the Area Hub and DCs; report and correct any control deficiencies.
  • Complete ad hoc projects, analysis, and initiatives as requested.
  • Other duties assigned by manager.

Supervision & Relationships

This role has dotted line supervision of Inventory Control staff. Internally, you’ll work with Area and Region staff, the Controllers Group, COE, and all other Finance personnel. Externally, you’ll interact with customers and third parties.

What You Need To Bring

  • Experience owning P&L management and driving financial strategy at an Area or regional level.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with cross functional teams and influencing senior leaders.
  • Experience with annual business planning, monthly forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, including damage, spoilage, shrink, and DIOH targets.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls and maintaining a strong control environment.
  • Ability to train and develop financial acumen in non finance managers.
  • A resourceful, self starter mindset ; you don’t wait to be told what to do.
