About This Role

What you'll be doing

You're the kind of nurse who sees the whole picture, not just the tasks in front of you. On our 36 bed Orthopedic Unit, you'll use the nursing process to assess, plan, and deliver patient care. But it doesn't stop there. You'll also evaluate how well care is being provided by other direct caregivers and coordinate with other departments to keep everything running smoothly for your patients.

This unit specializes in spinal surgery patients, along with medical patients. It's one of two inpatient units dedicated to post op spine patients here. You'll maintain patient rights and confidentiality every step of the way. And you'll do it all in a way that lines up with our mission, values, and mercy service standards.

The patient to nurse ratio sits at 5:1, which gives you room to provide real, attentive care. We've got a dedicated Spine Specialization Program and an orientation process built around helping you become competent with postoperative spine patients.

What you need to bring

  • A graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
  • A current RN license within the hiring state or compact licensure where you're performing nursing duties (you're responsible for getting and keeping this current)
  • Meet all state board of nursing requirements
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification ; or successfully complete the course within 30 days of hire
  • Other unit specific certifications as required; if needed, you'll get those within the department's required timeframe

The physical side of it

This role asks for some real physical work. You'll push, pull, and lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Prolonged standing and walking are part of each shift. And you need to be able to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to get your job done.

What's in it for you

The incentives here are solid right from day one.

  • Experienced Nurse Sign on Bonus up to $15,000 for select departments; Graduate Nurse Sign on Bonus $10,000
  • Stay Premium Program
  • Education Assistance up to $20,000 in Loan Forgiveness for new grad nurses
  • Tuition Reimbursement $2,000 per year
  • Day one comprehensive medical insurance along with dental and vision coverage
  • PTO and vacation time starting immediately
  • Employer Matched Retirement Funds from day one too
  • Shift Differentials available for certain hours worked

A little more about this unit

We're working toward becoming a Center of Excellence and earning Joint Commission Certification as a Spine Program. That means we take advanced certification and education seriously around here ; this is definitely an education oriented unit. Teamwork isn't just a word thrown around; it's how we operate every day.
