The work happens in various settings around Oakland, CA, including homes, clinics, and community centers.

Duties & Responsibilities

Your core tasks will focus on direct implementation and data collection.

  • Carry out individualized treatment plans developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
  • Collect accurate and timely data on client behaviors and skill acquisition during sessions.
  • Use positive reinforcement and other evidence based techniques to teach new skills.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities and community integration as outlined in their plan.
  • Maintain clear session notes and communicate progress to the supervising BCBA.

Requirements

A background in psychology or education helps, but we value practical aptitude just as much.

  • A high school diploma is required; an associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus.
  • Willingness to obtain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification if not already held; training is often provided.
  • The job involves frequent movement: sitting on floors, light lifting, and engaging in physical play.
  • You need patience, consistency, and the ability to follow detailed protocols without deviation.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within Oakland, CA are typically necessary.

What It's Like In This Role

No two days are identical. You're usually assigned to a small caseload, allowing you to build strong rapport with clients and their families. You'll work under the close supervision of a BCBA who provides weekly feedback and plan updates. Expect to use digital data collection apps and attend regular team meetings. The schedule can be demanding but seeing small victories makes it worthwhile.

Why You'll Like This Opportunity

The field of Applied Behavior Analysis is growing fast. This position offers real world experience that's essential for advancing to a coordinator or analyst role. You get immediate feedback on your impact, which isn't common in many jobs. There's also variety; you might work with different age groups or focus areas across Oakland, CA.

Schedule & Work Type

Positions are typically full time or part time, with hours often scheduled around client needs (e.g., after school times). The work is primarily onsite at client locations. Fully remote work isn't feasible for this hands on role, but some administrative tasks may be done from home.
