About This Role

The Gig

This is a Network Engineer role with SimVentions in Norfolk, VA. You'll be the person making sure tactical communication and network systems actually work ; across naval, aerial, vehicular, and field assets. That means full deployment, installation, and configuration. It's about keeping things reliable, secure, and mission ready in environments where "dynamic" is an understatement. Expect to travel up to 25% of the time.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Configure and manage all networking hardware: routers, switches, servers, radios (HF, VHF, UHF), and satellite terminals
  • Make sure systems are set up to meet the required specs for secure, reliable, and interoperable connectivity across diverse environments
  • Provide expert level technical support and rapid response troubleshooting for end users and field teams dealing with hardware and software issues in various network environments
  • Conduct proactive and reactive maintenance on all deployed communication and network systems to minimize disruptions
  • Manage and track equipment inventories ; procurement, deployment, and decommissioning
  • Create and update technical documentation: system diagrams, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides
  • Implement quality control and quality assurance measures so everything conforms to established standards
  • Provide documented analysis and recommendations for continuous improvement to enhance the quality of products and services
  • Handle network architecture design and management

What You Need

  • United States Citizenship
  • An active Secret Clearance is required. You'll be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • You're proficient with technical documentation and process improvements
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills ; you need to be able to explain complex stuff clearly
  • You can ensure all work complies with relevant security protocols and operational standards
  • You can manage and track equipment inventories, including procurement, deployment, and decommissioning
  • You can support field exercises and provide on site troubleshooting as needed
  • You work well in a fast changing environment, independently or as part of a team
  • Knowledge and experience with Mesh Networks and Mesh Network Radios (like MPU5, TrellisWare)
  • Working knowledge and experience with WinTAK/ATAK
  • Proficiency in configuring hardware appliances: mesh network radios (MPU5), routers, switches, firewalls, communication systems (various radios and cellular technologies), and security appliances (VPNs)

What They'd Love to See (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated experience with tactical communication (TAC), Starlink, MPU 5, Trellis, and Silvus equipment
  • Familiarity with military communication standards and protocols
  • Expertise with network management tools and software
  • Knowledge of RF principles and propagation
  • Critical thinking and the ability to come up with unconventional solutions
  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) or equivalent experience
  • Experience with satellite communication systems and equipment
  • A Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field, Computer Science, or a related technical field

Compensation

SimVentions looks at your experience, education, training, security clearance, work location, skills, knowledge, and competencies when setting pay, along with their corporate compensation plan and contract requirements. The projected annual compensation range for this role is $120,000 - $150,000 (USD). That's just the salary ; it's one part of a larger total compensation package.
