GI/Endoscopy Technician

This is a hands on role for someone who thrives in a clinical setting. As a GI/Endoscopy Technician in Norfolk, VA, you’ll be the person who preps scopes, assists during procedures, and keeps the lab running smoothly. It’s fast work ; you’re handling delicate equipment while supporting the physician and calming patients. You won’t find this job boring; every case is a bit different.

Duties & Responsibilities / JobXi / Norfolk, VA

• Scope reprocessing. You’ll clean, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopes per strict infection control protocols. Every step matters ; no shortcuts.
• Procedure room setup. Pulling supplies, checking lights on the tower, connecting air and water channels ; you get the room ready before the patient walks in.
• Assisting the physician. Handing off forceps, snares, or biopsy needles during colonoscopies and upper GI exams. You need to know what they need before they ask.
• Patient prep and positioning. Explaining what’s about to happen, getting them into the right position (left lateral for colonoscopy), and keeping them comfortable under sedation.
• Tissue handling basics. Labeling specimens properly so pathology can do their job later without confusion.
• Equipment checks after use. First look detects leaks or damage that could compromise patient safety next time around.

• A high school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree or certificate in sterile processing or surgical tech helps but isn’t always mandatory here. Many places train on site if you show aptitude with tools..
• CGFNS certification isn't needed unless state law specifically demands it – check local rules close because they vary across municipalities..
• The physical part is real: standing most of shift – not static; sometimes moving heavy equipment like scope carts between rooms without hesitation... Bending low constantly shouldn't bother your joints yet..
