What the job is
This is a Team Lead role with JLL here in New York, NY. You'll act as the electrical commissioning technical team leader for the Data Center and Mission Critical Commissioning group. It's a role for someone who's been doing this work for a while and knows how to lead a project from start to finish. The position is open to agreed locations throughout the US, but you should be ready for about 30 40% overnight travel to client sites across the US and Canada. Travel trips usually don't go longer than two consecutive weeks.
What you'll actually do
You're the person who both manages and performs commissioning work. That means you'll lead the electrical team members and, when needed, do the field commissioning activities yourself. You'll schedule and coordinate JLL staff and external project team members, making sure contractors and sub trades have met all the CxA pre test requirements before we roll in. Efficiency and productivity are on you.
- Manage and perform commissioning design drawings, specs, and submittal reviews
- Manage and develop project specific Commissioning Plans and Commissioning Specifications
- Write or oversee the creation of detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs) for data center projects
- Develop L0 L6 commissioning test scripts and procedures, and get them approved
- Act as the main point of contact to the client for everything related to electrical systems commissioning
- Provide day to day technical direction to the electrical commissioning group, and mentor the junior folks
- Be JLL's Subject Matter Expert (SME) and the technical escalation point for data center electrical equipment and systems
- Schedule, lead, and document on site and offsite project commissioning meetings
- Help develop JLL project proposals in response to client RFPs, identify the team makeup needed for each project, and support management of project budgets and financials
- Work and coordinate directly with General Contractors, sub contractors, AHJs, Engineers of Record, and anyone else involved in small, medium, and large scale critical facility construction and commissioning projects
You'll manage both onsite and offsite commissioning activities. You'll also be the third party commissioning lead for data center electrical systems ; that includes factory inspections and testing, installation inspections, vendor startup, pre functional testing, and functional and integrated testing.
What you need to have
Let's be real: this isn't an entry level gig.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in startup and commissioning of data center electrical systems
- A minimum of 5 years acting as the electrical commissioning lead (ideally with experience delivering projects over 25MW)
- Strong fluency with ASHRAE commissioning requirements and guidelines for data centers
- Strong fluency with ANSI and NETA testing standards for electrical equipment and systems
- Strong fluency with NFPA electrical safety standards
- Significant knowledge and documented experience testing and commissioning transformers, switchgear, switchboards, protection relays, STS, PDU, UPS and batteries, RPPs, lighting control systems, SCADA, and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) for low, medium, and high voltage applications
- Real hands on experience with electrical test equipment: relay testing equipment, primary and secondary injection test equipment, power quality meters (PQMs), infrared cameras, electrical test meters (voltage, current, resistance, continuity), insulation resistance testers, and ground resistance testers
- Strong proficiency with QA/QC and Cx software like Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), CxAlloy, Facility Grid, or similar platforms
An ABET accredited engineering or technology degree is strongly preferred, but if you have equivalent demonstrated experience, that works too. A Commissioning Professional certification from a recognized industry authority is ideal. A Professional Engineering (PE) or PMP designation is an asset but not required.

Compensation is based on your experience and location, but the base pay range for this role is between $130,000 and $180,000 per year.
