Group Sales Manager – Hyatt Regency Times Square
This is a Sales Manager role at the Hyatt Regency Times Square, located right in the thick of it all ; Broadway between 48th and 49th Streets. The hotel has 795 modern, newly renovated guestrooms. You'd be working for Highgate Hotels, which is a pretty big deal in hospitality management. They run properties in New York, Boston, Miami, San Francisco, Honolulu, and are growing fast in Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Their portfolio is worth over $20 billion. They've got corporate offices in London, New York, Dallas, and Seattle.
What you'll actually do
You're not just sitting behind a desk. You're out there, working your market segments, building relationships, and closing business. Here's what the day to day looks like:
- Meet or exceed the sales goals set for your territory.
- Keep the Sales Department running within its established expense budget.
- Participate in M.O.D. (Manager on Duty) shifts and Saturday office coverage when it's your turn.
- Initiate and follow up on leads ; don't let them sit.
- Maintain an active sales solicitation program, not just waiting for the phone to ring.
- Monitor production from your top accounts and keep an eye on trends in your market.
- Contact existing accounts regularly based on the tracing frequencies in the Account Coverage Program.
- Hit your sales solicitation call goals as assigned by the Director of Sales.
- Invite clients to the hotel for entertainment, lunches, tours, and site inspections.
- Help roll out special promotions for direct sales segments ; parties, sales blitzes, that kind of thing.
- Prepare required reports on time.
- Know Highgate's sales policies and selling techniques inside out, especially how to maximize occupancy and Average Daily Rate (ADR).
- Conduct thorough, professional site inspections with clients, showing off the hotel's key features and benefits.
- Use the hotel's computerized sales management system to generate reports, enter business, block space, and build accounts.
- Meet and greet onsite contacts.
- Stick to Prime Selling Time (PST).
- Network actively through community and professional associations, events, and activities.
- Review meeting planner evaluations with the Director of Sales so issues actually get followed up on.
- Entertain clients.
- Handle inquiries as part of the Inquiry Day Program.
What you need to bring

- College coursework in a related field is helpful but not mandatory.
- Experience in Corporate Group Sales is preferred.
- Experience in a hotel or a related field is preferred.
- A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- You need to be skilled in Windows, company approved spreadsheets, and word processing.
- You must communicate effectively ; verbally and in writing ; with everyone from employees to guests, and always in an attentive, friendly, courteous, service oriented way.
- You need to listen, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
- You have to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to hit deadlines.
- Approach every encounter with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.
- Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
- Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.
- Maintain regular attendance according to Highgate Hotel Standards, which means your schedule will vary based on hotel needs.
- Keep high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing your nametag.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to keep operations safe and efficient.
- Maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and help implement solutions.
- Handle problems effectively ; anticipate them, prevent them, identify them, and solve them.
- Understand and evaluate complex information and data from various sources to meet objectives.
