About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. I've been placing therapists for over a decade, and roles like this are why I stick with it. You're not just filling a slot; you're connecting someone with work that genuinely changes how people live. VNS Health needs an Occupational Therapist in New York, NY, and the way they've structured this role tells you a lot about what they value.
You're designing and delivering rehab therapy one on one, but you're doing it where it matters most: in someone's home or community. The goal is straightforward; help people recover from a surgery, illness, or accident so they can stay out of the hospital and heal where they're comfortable. You'll see their daily life up close, which means your assessments are real, and you can adjust the care plan as their needs evolve. You practice independently, but you're part of an interdisciplinary team.
What you need to bring
A couple of non negotiables here. First, you need at least one year of experience as an Occupational Therapist. If you don't have that full year yet, they'll consider someone who successfully completed their probationary period as a VNS Health Rehab Intern.
- New York State licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist is mandatory.
- You also need a valid driver's license if you're working anywhere outside the borough of Manhattan.
The details on pay & schedule
They've listed two different pay structures, so it depends on what type of role you're applying for.
If this is the standard full time salaried position, the annual pay range is $85,000 to $106,300.
If you're applying for the per diem, per visit version of the job, pay is by visit. Here’s how that breaks down:
- Most areas: For all locations except the Bronx and specific parts of Brooklyn (Downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Greenpoint), the rate is $70 to $75 per visit.
- The Bronx: Weekday visits pay $95 each. Weekend visits pay $100 each.
- Parts of Brooklyn: In Downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint only, weekday visits are $95 and weekend visits are $100.
Benefits they provide
The benefits package is solid. It's one of those lists that actually makes sense for someone building a life and career.
- The PTO starts at 30 days off plus 9 company holidays.
- There's a full health insurance plan covering medical, dental, vision, life, and disability for you and your family.
- They match your retirement savings contributions.
- You get access to personal and financial wellness programs.
- Pre tax flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are available for both healthcare and dependent care expenses.
- They offer generous tuition reimbursement if you're pursuing a qualifying degree.
- There are clear paths for professional growth: internal mobility options, CEU credits, and advancement opportunities. They mention referral bonus opportunities too.
A bit about VNS Health
They've been around for more than 130 years. It's one of the country's biggest nonprofit home health organizations. Their whole thing is helping people age and heal at home; they call the people they serve "neighbors," which I think says something. On any given day over 10k team members are out there delivering care to more than 43k people across New York. They lean heavily on data analytics to inform how they operate in the community health space.
