About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this role. It's with a firm that's been around since 1850, which tells you something about their stability and reputation. They're looking for an attorney who wants to dig into energy, utility, and regulatory law.
The work itself is a mix. You'll handle regulatory proceedings and litigation, but there's also transactional stuff; drafting contracts and advising on deals. It means your days won't look the same. You're providing counsel to clients in the energy sector, so you need to be comfortable explaining complex regulations and helping them navigate changes.
What you'd be doing
- Give legal advice and represent clients in the energy and utility industries.
- Prepare cases for regulatory hearings and court; that includes writing pleadings, handling discovery, and drafting briefs.
- A lot of legal research is involved. You'll analyze findings to build case strategies.
- Negotiate and draft contracts for energy transactions.
- Advise clients on how to stay compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Build relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and other key contacts.
- Work alongside other attorneys on larger projects that need multiple perspectives.
- You've got to keep up with new developments in energy law. They expect you to contribute knowledge back to the field.
The background we need
- A J.D. from an accredited law school is non negotiable.
- You must be admitted to the state bar here and be in good standing.
- At least two years of direct experience practicing energy, utility, and regulatory law. That experience should include regulatory proceedings and litigation work.
- Your legal research and writing skills have to be sharp; it’s a core part of the job.
- The role requires strong negotiation skills; you'll be advocating for clients regularly.
- Managing several projects at once is standard here. You need to prioritize well and hit deadlines consistently.
The practical details
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000 per year. The schedule has some flexibility built in.
