About This Role

Alright, let's get straight to it. We're a top tier IP law firm, and we need another great attorney. Our practice is built on representing innovators, from startups to major corporations, specifically in patent preparation and prosecution. If your background is in litigation with that same technical foundation, you should keep reading.

What you'll do

This isn't a siloed role. You'll be involved from strategy through execution across the full spectrum of intellectual property work.

  • Take the lead on complex patent and trademark litigation. That means federal courts, the PTAB, and other administrative proceedings.
  • Manage global IP portfolios for clients in tech and life sciences. Their innovation becomes your responsibility.
  • Craft and implement strategies for IP enforcement and monetization that actually fit each client's goals.
  • Negotiate licensing and tech transfer agreements. You'll also handle the IP due diligence for corporate transactions.
  • Draft and prosecute patent and trademark applications yourself, making sure they accurately protect what the client invented.
  • Provide clear legal opinions on freedom to operate, validity, and infringement risks. Clients need actionable advice, not just theory.
  • Work directly with engineers, scientists, and business leaders to make sure the legal strategy supports their commercial objectives.
  • This is a collaborative place. Part of the job is mentoring junior attorneys and helping the whole IP team grow stronger.

The background you need

We have some non negotiables here based on the nature of the work. Check these off first.

  • A J.D. degree and at least eight years practicing intellectual property law.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field. This is essential for understanding our clients' work.
  • You must be admitted to practice before the USPTO and licensed in at least one state bar.
  • Proven hands on experience managing complex patent and trademark litigation as well as prosecution matters from start to finish.
  • Strong technical fluency; you need to grasp software, hardware, or life sciences technologies at a deep level to advocate effectively.

The skills that make a difference here

Beyond the credentials, this is how you'll succeed day to day.

  • Real expertise in building global IP portfolio strategy, not just filing paperwork. Licensing and enforcement are key parts of the puzzle.
  • Your negotiation skills need to be sharp. So does your analytical thinking for dissecting complex technical legal problems.
  • Communication is everything. You're translating between legal doctrine, engineering specs, and business outcomes all the time.
  • You've advised both scrappy emerging technology companies and larger established corporations. You know how to adjust your approach accordingly.
