About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. It's a driving position, but it's not just moving freight from point A to point B. You'll be operating Class A trucks for environmental and industrial cleanup work in New York, NY. Think vacuum trucks, roll offs, that kind of equipment. The work itself is a mix of driving and hands on labor at customer sites, often dealing with hazardous materials.
The Work
Your main focus is safe operation. That means following every rule; company policy, DOT regulations, you name it. You're driving commercial vehicles and pitching in with the field crew when you're not behind the wheel; it's a team job.
- Operate a range of Class A trucks and equipment.
- Handle loading and unloading.
- Perform manual labor on site to get the customer's job done.
- Properly placard all vehicles according to DOT and company rules.
- Keep up with daily logs, time sheets, and other paperwork.
- Safely follow all operating procedures and environmental health guidelines.
A couple specific notes: depending on the exact position, you might be on an emergency response rotation every other week. The work can involve site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling hazardous waste.
The Schedule & Training
This isn't a standard home every night gig. The role requires about 50% travel. You could be out on the road for several weeks at a time. Hours and your schedule aren't guaranteed; they change based on emergency response needs.
New hires are required to attend our two week Academy training out of state. Don't worry about the cost; the company covers all expenses, and you're paid for your time in training.
What You Need to Bring
A few things are non negotiable to start:
- A valid Class A CDL.
- The ability to obtain your Hazmat and Tanker endorsements within 90 days of employment.
- You need to be comfortable using different mobile devices.
- The job has physical demands; you must be able to perform the required functions.
- Per OSHA standards for respirator use, certain facial hair styles aren't permitted if they interfere with the seal.
It'd be great if you also had:
- Commercial driving experience already under your belt.
- Those Hazmat and Tanker endorsements in hand already.
- Previous experience with hazardous materials.
- Skill with a manual transmission.
- A background in manual labor.
