Medical Director

ChenMed·New Orleans, LA

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Medical Director role in New Orleans, LA. It's a hybrid job; you're still seeing patients, but you're also the one making sure the clinic runs right and the other doctors are set up to succeed. It's a lot of moving parts, but if you like leading without leaving practice behind, this could be it.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll split your time between seeing your own panel of older adult patients and leading the clinical team at your assigned center. The exact split depends on things like how many providers you're supervising and the needs of the market.

  • Provide full scope primary care for adults with acute and chronic conditions. You're the captain of the ship for their care.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and coach the other primary care providers in your center.
  • You're accountable for the center's clinical quality, efficiency, patient outcomes, and provider satisfaction.
  • Lead weekly team meetings like the Super Huddle and Transforming Care Meeting.
  • Partner with the center's operations manager on financial performance and growing patient membership.
  • Step in to cover clinical leadership duties or help manage daily center operations when needed.
  • Stay engaged when your patients are hospitalized, coordinating with hospitalists regardless of their affiliation.
  • Manage a care team for office based patients and collaborate with transitional care teams for patients in hospitals, nursing facilities, or at home.
  • The job includes helping recruit new patients to the center and interviewing potential new providers for the company.

The Specifics We Need

This isn't an entry level gig. We need someone who's been in the trenches and is ready to help others succeed there too.

  • A medical degree (MD or DO) in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics or a similar specialty is required.
  • You must have a current, active medical license for the state you'll be working in.
  • Board Eligibility in your specialty is required; Board certification is preferred. If you're certified, you'll need to maintain it with ongoing MOC and CME.
  • A year of clinical experience in geriatric, adult, or family practice is preferred. Ideally, you'd already be a ChenMed PCP Partner stepping into this lead role.
  • You'll need to complete our internal training programs as part of your development plan here. That includes Masterful Conversations and meeting facilitation workshops.

The Practical Stuff

  • You should be comfortable with basic office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • The role requires fluency in English (verbal and written). Some locations might need additional language skills; they'd tell you that upfront if it applies.
  • There's some travel involved. You'd need to travel nationally for a two week initial training. After that, there’s occasional local travel within your market and regional/national travel for recruiting or more training.
  • A big part of this job is using your own independent judgment every day.

This description lists major duties but isn't exhaustive. Duties might be adjusted at your manager's discretion.
