Mechanical Engineer
If you know your way around mechanical systems and want to apply that expertise to projects that matter, this role with Cherokee Federal in New Orleans, LA might fit. You'll work on repair, FSRM, and MILCON projects that keep Marine Corps Reserve facilities safe and functional. The job centers on managing and supporting the designs, plans, and inspections that keep things running.
What you'll do
- Review plans, designs, drawings, and specs that licensed professional engineers put together.
- Take part in design reviews, charrettes, and project planning for DBB and DB projects, plus FACD and RFP development for MILCON and FSRM projects.
- Provide design comments during every review phase and sort out design issues with federal agencies like NAVFAC and USACE.
- Coordinate, validate, and distribute design plans, specs, and turnover documents to the MARFORRES FAC department ; this includes as built drawings, pre construction drawings, construction drawings, shop drawings, OMSI documents, commissioning reports, utility one line drawings, beneficial occupancy documents, final inspection deficiency resolutions, and beneficial occupancy signoffs.
- Review and recommend collateral equipment requirements.
- Manage critical initiatives, objectives, and all operations tied to FSRM and MILCON project requirements.
- Identify new or changed planning standards, UFCs, U.S. laws, Executive Orders, and DoD regulations ; then propose updates to current program and initiative planning.
- Review proposed changes and offer alternatives to keep things compatible with existing schedules, planning studies, and zoning criteria.
- Help MARFORRES Facilities research and apply UFCs, MCOs, technical criteria, and other requirements for project and planning document development.
- Spot discrepancies or problems with U.S. standards and make recommendations to the MARFORRES Facilities Directorate.
- Coordinate with construction agencies, MARFORRES FAC, and affected units about how construction will impact unit operations.
- Support and oversee repair, FSRM, and MILCON projects to keep them on schedule and budget, coordinating with MARFORRES FAC personnel and stakeholders.
- Draft meeting minutes and project reports for MARFORRES FAC staff.
- Keep project sponsors and MARFORRES Facilities informed about project status versus the planned baseline.
- Review project RFIs and MODs and report cost and schedule impacts.
- Help organize facility planning, management, and stakeholder coordination for MARFORRES Facilities.
- Maintain an issue, RFI, and MOD log throughout all project phases to track outstanding issues, plans for resolution, status, and verification.
- Keep project comment lists throughout all phases to coordinate comments with stakeholders and ensure timely submissions and responses.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
What you need
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 3 to 10 years of experience.
- A Professional Engineering license is preferred but not required.
- Background knowledge in Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, hot water systems, and SCADA.
- Working knowledge of DoD and Marine Corps policies and regulations for facilities planning and engineering projects of special and MILCON scope.
- Experience working on DoD installations on facilities projects, maintenance, and operations ; preferred.
- Experience managing MILCON projects between $50M and $150M and special projects between $200K and $2M ; preferred.
- Experience with facilities planning and programming for MILCON or special projects scope ; preferred.
- Experience working with NAVFAC and the Army Corps of Engineers ; preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus the ability to stay highly organized.
- The ability to obtain a Secret Clearance or Common Access Card (CAC).
- Knowledge of Microsoft operating system, Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with USMC information systems like Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Project.
- Must pass a pre employment screening.
