EMT

Acadian Ambulance Service·New Orleans, LA

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this EMT job in New Orleans, LA. It's with Acadian Ambulance. This isn't a desk job; you're out there on calls, and what you do matters from the moment you arrive until you hand off your patient. You've got to be sharp, thorough, and ready for anything the day throws at you.

What You'll Be Doing

The core of it is providing basic life support and safe transport. But that means a lot of things, all at once.

  • You assess patients for signs of illness or injury right away.
  • You administer care within your certification and our protocols, both on scene and en route to the hospital.
  • Getting patients to and from the ambulance safely is a big part of it; they're relying on you.
  • Your run reports need to document everything about the patient's condition and the treatment given. There's other paperwork, too.
  • When you transfer care at the hospital, it's not just dropping someone off. You give a clear report to the receiving personnel.
  • You're responsible for your rig. That means checking inventory, testing equipment, and making sure everything is present, clean, and works.
  • After a call, you restock and clean so the ambulance is ready for the next one.
  • If repairs are needed on equipment or the vehicle itself, you document it and report it to maintenance and your supervisor.
  • Sometimes you might need to use basic tools to help get access to a patient, or manage bystanders at a scene to keep everyone safe.
  • You'll operate the ambulance following all safety guidelines, whether it's an emergency or non emergency transport.
  • There are station duties as well; keeping things clean, ordering supplies from Central Stock when needed, washing ambulances. The team makes sure everything runs smoothly.
  • You attend mandatory meetings and complete required company logs and reports.
  • If you become an approved preceptor down the line, you could be training new hires or EMT students.

The Essentials You Need

We can't bend on these. They're what let you do the job safely and legally.

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • You must have your National and/or State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT B).
  • A current CPR certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
  • A valid state issued driver's license is required (the equivalent of a Louisiana Class "D").

The Person We Need

The certs get you in the door. How you handle yourself keeps you here. This work asks a lot of you personally.

You need to read, write, and communicate clearly with everyone; patients, partners, managers. Writing simple reports is part of it. Knowing our company protocols inside out isn't just policy; it's how we ensure good care. Driving a large vehicle in all sorts of conditions is a core skill. You have to maintain professionalism but also personal motivation. A sense of ownership over your work really matters. Things move fast. Having urgency while working under pressure to meet deadlines is just part of the reality here. And honestly? Excellent interpersonal skills aren't just nice to have; they're how you connect with scared people and work seamlessly with your partner.
