The Gist

St. Vincent's Medical Center in New Haven, CT needs an OR RN. There's a sign on bonus for nurses with at least 3 years of OR experience. You'd work as the RN Circulator, keeping things safe and sterile for patients having surgery.

What You'll Actually Do

• Assess patients before surgery ; check NPO status, review charts, and address their concerns.
• Set up the OR with the right supplies, implants, instruments, and equipment.
• Check and troubleshoot equipment as needed. If something's off, you'll catch it.
• Keep the operating room properly sterilized. That's non negotiable.
• Position and prepare each patient on the operating table.
• Monitor vital signs during the procedure and watch for any anomalies.
• Pass instruments and objects to the surgeon during the operation when you're scrubbed in.
• Communicate with patients, teammates, and physicians so care stays continuous.
• Adhere to health and safety standards and precautions every time.
• Document everything according to protocols ; before and after each procedure.

What You Need

• A valid Registered Nurse license from the Connecticut Department of Public Health, obtained before you start.
• An associate degree is required. A BSN is preferred.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association ; you'll need this within 60 days of hire.
• At least 2 years of current experience as an Operating Room Nurse. Scrub experience is a plus, but not required.
• A solid understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• You should know patient safety and precautions inside and out.
• In depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures.
• You're a critical thinker and a problem solver.
• Organizational and time management skills that hold up under pressure.
• Team player with strong communication skills.
