About This Role

The Role

St. Vincent's Medical Center is growing its critical care services ; specifically in neuro critical care, heart and vascular, and surgical oncology. We're bringing on ICU and PCU registered nurses to care for these patient populations. If you have experience in med surg or critical care, this might be the right move for you.

You'll work rotating day/night shifts, 7am to 7:30pm and 7pm to 7:30am.

What You'll Do

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans, recording and communicating patient condition as it changes.
  • Coordinate care across all disciplines to keep everything running smoothly.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate each patient's discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
  • Identify physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and age related needs to provide individualized care.
  • Delegate tasks to other nursing staff based on their education and expertise to meet patient needs and maximize performance.
  • Participate in daily interdisciplinary patient rounds. You'll need to know each patient's condition and offer input to get the best outcomes for that population.
  • Follow the ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice (2015), ANA Code of Ethics (2015), and ANA Social Policy Statement (2015).
  • Develop, implement, and revise individualized care plans.
  • Pursue professional growth and development outside of direct patient care.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.

What You Need

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • A current Connecticut RN license.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • An associate degree is required; a BSN is preferred.
  • Two years of medical surgical or critical care experience is preferred.

This is at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, a twice designated Magnet hospital. It's a 473 bed teaching hospital with a 76 bed inpatient psychiatric facility and special needs services. It's also a Level 2 Trauma Center, certified by the American College of Surgeons.
