Pediatric ICU RN

About This Role

The Job

This is a Pediatric ICU (PICU) Registered Nurse role at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

You'll be doing direct patient care, working within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. The hospital has over 740 beds and a full children's hospital on its campus. It's a big place with serious resources.

What the day to day looks like:

  • You monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in your patients' conditions. Accurate, detailed records are part of this.
  • You order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to figure out what's going on with each patient.
  • You modify patient treatment plans as patients respond and their conditions change.
  • You consult and coordinate with the rest of the healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • You monitor all aspects of patient care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting.
  • You instruct individuals, families, or other groups on the patient's care, disease process, and discharge instructions.
  • When you're acting as charge nurse, you handle the day to day activities to keep quality patient care moving in a therapeutic environment. That means making staff assignments based on patient need, acuity, and the skill of the staff. You'll be a role model and a clinical resource for the rest of the team. You respond in a timely way to requests for information or follow up with physicians, staff, or patient issues.
  • You'll identify nursing problems as they relate to each patient's individual needs. You plan individualized patient care using an interdisciplinary approach and participate in performance improvement activities.

What You Need

  • RN licensure by the Tennessee Board of Nursing, or by a Board of Nursing from a compact state.
  • A current BLS certification.
  • PALS certification is required within the first 6 months.
  • 1 year of RN experience is required.
  • Pediatric ICU, Adult ICU, or Pediatric experience is highly preferred.
