The Role
TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN needs a PACU Registered Nurse. This is a job for someone who wants to get post op patients through recovery safely and skillfully. You'll be responsible for managing airway support, keeping close tabs on neurological and cardiac status, and jumping on any complications or side effects the second they surface. You're also handling initial wound care at the surgical site to keep patients stable as they wake up. And you'll work right alongside the surgical and anesthesia teams. There's on call availability during select non business hours ; the interview is where you'll get specifics on that.
What you'll actually do
- Deliver patient centered care that's grounded in evidence based practices and continuous improvement. This isn't just checking boxes.
- Work as a core member of an interdisciplinary team that includes providers, therapists, and more. Your input matters here.
- Own the nursing process ; assessment, critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skill, and leadership ; to independently provide safe care.
- Assess each patient's condition, monitor them through your shift, and document every change and every bit of care you provide.
- Educate patients and their families on the medical condition, the treatment plan, and what follow up looks like.
What you need to bring
- 2 years of critical care experience. That's non negotiable.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification ; must be obtained within 6 months of your start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification ; must be obtained within 30 days of your start date.
- An active Registered Nurse license.
- At minimum, a Registered Nurse Diploma, or an Associate Degree, or a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
The schedule and support
Scheduling is self or preferential, posted four weeks ahead so you can plan your life. The leadership here is visible and supportive ; they push a collaborative, respectful culture where you're encouraged to ask questions, seek help, and speak up with ideas. You'll have staffing support from Certified Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Techs, Charge Nurses, and an RN float pool internal to HCA Healthcare. And there's rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, so your voice gets heard on patient care suggestions.
