- Develop and validate packaging designs for new and existing products, ensuring they survive shipping and handling.
- Specify materials; corrugate, foam, film; balancing performance, cost, and environmental impact.
- Run ISTA or ASTM standard tests in the lab, analyze failures, and document the results.
- Work directly with suppliers to source materials and troubleshoot production line issues related to packaging.
- Create detailed specifications and drawings so everyone from procurement to the warehouse floor is on the same page.
- Lead projects to reduce material usage or switch to more recyclable options without compromising protection.
Requirements
- A solid grasp of packaging principles: cushioning curves, distribution environments, material science.
- Hands on experience with CAD software like SolidWorks or AutoCAD for creating 3D models and specs.
- Familiarity with packaging testing standards isn't just nice to have; it's how you prove your designs work.
- A bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is typically required.
- You'll spend time on the factory floor, so comfort in an industrial environment is a must.
- The job involves managing multiple projects; staying organized when priorities shift is key.
